Orson Welles "Aranypolgár" című filmje már jóval bemutatása előtt botrányt kavart. A premier előtti vetítésen mindenki egyetértett abban, hogy egy zseniális művet láttak, kivéve egy személyt: Hedda Hoppert, aki akkor a legismertebb és legfélelmetesebb pletykalap főszerkesztője volt. A "Nagy ember" William Randolph Hearst volt, az Aranypolgár pedig alig leplezhető gúnyrajz a század első, hihetetlen hatalommal bíró sajtómágnásáról.
